When we book a stay with a nice hotel or resort, there is a level of service that we expect. While most hotels have staff members that are willing to go above and beyond to cater to guests, there will always be guests that are overly demanding or finicky. To have a pleasant experience, guests should also consider their behavior.

Here are some tips to being a great hotel guest to have the best possible stay for you and everyone in the hotel:

  1. Prior to Arrival

Book your stay prior to your trip. By making reservations early, you can give the hotel you’re staying at enough time to prepare for your arrival, especially if you have additional requests. If you need adjoining rooms, are bringing a pet, or have room allergies, you can advise the hotel beforehand so they can make special arrangements. If they can’t accommodate your request, they may know of another hotel that can.

  1. Upon Arrival

Make your way to the hotel lobby or reception area with your booking confirmation or required documentation. Treat hotel staff with respect and be open to tipping those that you believe are adding value to your stay.

Some of those people include:

  • Parking Valet – When you park your vehicle
  • Concierge – On-arrival and at the end of your stay
  • Restaurant Servers – If you dine at any of the hotel restaurants or bars
  • Housekeeping Staff – For daily upkeep and cleaning of your room
  1. During Your Stay

  • Treat the hotel furniture and fixtures with care

The items around the hotel are not your property. While the hotel management works to maintains all furniture and fixtures to their utmost quality, a good guest must still keep in mind not to abuse them.

  • Keep the noise level down

A hotel houses numerous rooms and each guest may have their own preferences, however, consider being a good neighbor by keeping the noise down – whether that means your voice, TV volume, music, or any sound that could potentially disrupt the rest and relaxation of others.

  • Be an eco-friendly guest

You are provided toiletries and other amenities during your stay. While it is part of your total bill, consider being an environmental-conscious guest by foregoing the option for daily towel replacement, or even by turning off appliances that aren’t in use.
